CRS Rice Bowl Lent 2025 Week #2

Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving

Lent is a sacred season of renewal, calling us to deepen our relationship with God and our neighbors through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is a time to reflect inwardly and reach outwardly, embracing the grace of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the call to serve others.

Through prayer, we open our hearts to God’s presence in silence, nature, and those in need. Fasting strengthens our solidarity with the hungry, helping us experience even a glimpse of their daily struggles. Almsgiving becomes an act of love—expressing our faith through generosity.

A meaningful way to live these Lenten pillars is by participating in CRS Rice Bowl. Families across the U.S. use this simple tool—a small cardboard box—to collect alms while following a 40-day journey of reflections, stories, and global meal recipes. Join this tradition and make your Lent a season of transformation and compassion.

In Week 2 of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl invites us to reflect on the inspiring story of Amina Bukar from Nigeria. After being displaced from her hometown due to violence, Amina rebuilt her life by starting a food grinding business and now empowers other women in her community by teaching them to prepare nutritious meals for their children.
