First World Day of the Poor

Let us love, not with words but with deeds

In marking the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has established the First World Day of the Poor, to be celebrated on November 19, 2017. On that day, our Holy Father asks us all to “draw near to the poor, to encounter them, to meet their gaze, to embrace them and to let them feel the warmth of love that breaks through their solitude . . . We need to hear the cry of the poor and commit ourselves to ending their marginalization.”

November 19th also marks the date of the national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). CCHD supports a wide variety of self-help community programs to help end the cycle of poverty and protect human dignity.
